- 1. Study two or three sections from Welfare Reform: A Twentieth
Century Fund Guide to the Issues (New York: Twentieth Century Fund
Press,
1995), e.g., "Are Welfare Families Getting Too Much?" Should Immigrants
Receive Welfare?" and "What Is the State's Role in Welfare?" Then develop
a Christian response
to the issues of welfare reform by using information learned in this
course about (distributive) justice and the principles of economic life.

- 2. South Africa's government has currently proposed legislation
that would begin affirmative action in that country. Would you urge them
to do this based on your experience and the philosophical and theological
principles of Roman Catholic social ethics learned in this course?
