A Re-examination of Stamped Handles from Tell Beit Mirsim, Bethel,
and Tell el-Ful
American Schools of Oriental Research 1998
There are some fifty-five stamped or incised handles from excavations
at Tell Beit Mirsim, Bethel, Tell el-Ful, and other sites in the collection
of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary's Bible Lands Museum. Many of these
handles, ranging in date from the Middle Bronze to Hellenistic periods
have not been examined since their publication, and others have not
been published yet . This collection includes several types of Iron
II handles, such as LMLK, circle-stamped, rosette, and several incised
with X's or crosses.
There have been some recent studies of similar handles from other sites.
A reexamination of these handles should add to our understanding of
the use and distribution of such stamps and incised marks.
