Payoffs and Pitfalls - Standardized Testing in Religious Studies
(Invited Paper - Special Session on Standardized Assessment)
Society of Biblical Literature 2005
Standardized testing in the public schools has received much attention
of late, but the growth of programs like the National Biblical Greek
Exam suggests that such examinations can play an important role in post-secondary
Religious Studies. This paper will examine the benefits of such programs
as well as the difficulties created by them. It will consider strategies
for successfully incorporating standardized tests as well as new areas
in which such tests might be beneficial.
