The Appledore Island Migration Station
This
page was created for the banders and band-aides at the Appledore
Island Migration Station. Feel free
to make suggestions on information I should post here.
RESOURCES
ANNOUNCEMENTS
- The station is scheduled to
run May 8 to June 10 and the
Spring
Schedule is being updated regularly.
- The boat list
is on the web (http://www.sml.cornell.edu/sml_event.taf),
but you must let the island know when you plan to arrive.
Please call Pam Boutilier at SML's Portsmouth, NH office
(603-430-5220) or email Pam at: shoals-lab-east@cornell.edu
to schedule boat reservations for your arrival and
departure. Please note that the boat schedule is definitely
tentative and subject to change. Please make sure you check
with Pam about your reservation 1-2 days BEFORE your
arrival, otherwise, if you have last minute concerns about
weather, etc. and need to reach SML staff on the DAY OF
travel, and you can not reach Pam, please call the island
office: 603-964-9011.
- We have
reserved three parking spots at the ISSCo dock. Other parking options remain the same (http://www.sml.cornell.edu/sml_gettingtosml.html
has details).
- BIG
CHANGE: please do not send any money to anyone until
you receive an invoice. Room and board is covered for trained volunteers,
but I am requesting folks to pay for their boat trip ($66)
and to consider making a donation to the lab if they are
able.
- If you must have something mailed to
you while on Appledore, please note the SML staff does their
best to get mainland packages onto scheduled boats as often
as possible.
Packages* should be sent to:
Banding Station Volunteer's Name
C/O Shoals Marine Laboratory
Attn: Banding Station-Appledore Island
400 Little Harbor Road
Portsmouth, NH 03801
*Also, please note that signature waivers
should be signed, as there is not always someone at the
mainland office of SML to sign for packages, and shippers
may not leave packages without a signature waiver.
- We will post
the tentative fall dates when we hear from the island.
- I have
developed a listserve for the station so that we can send
out general announcements. Please let me
know if you would like to be added, or know of others who
should be added.
