CAC SPEAKER POSITIONS AT THE BUFFALO ZOO

The CAC program will be hiring two Canisius students to serve as speakers and public educators at the Buffalo Zoo and/or at Marineland over the coming summer.  These CAC representatives will be making presentations focused on elephants, sea lions, otters, rhinos and bears.

Details:

  • It is expected that two students will be hired to serve in this capacity.

  • One student will be hired for four days per week, ten hours per day.  One student will be hired for four days per week, five hours per day.

  • The period of employment will be from June 23, 2008 to August 24, 2008.

  • The rate of pay for both students will be $8.00 per hour.

Applicable Dates:

  • April 5, 2008  Application Forms Made Available

  • April 12, 2008  Written Applications Due

  • April 13-16, 2008  Live Tryouts

  • April 18, 2008  Decisions Announced/Positions Offered

Considerations:

The candidates will be selected based upon the following factors (in this order):

  • public presentations skills, especially as pertains to children

  • commitment to wildlife conservation as a goal and the ability to express that commitment in words

  • evidence of academic excellence

  • evidence of reliability and good performance during past employment

  • knowledge of wildlife biology and animal behavior, especially as it pertains to the zoo animals to be covered

It is possible that the students chosen for these speaker positions will also be among those who have previously participated in the NWR-focused trips described elsewhere.  But this is NOT a requirement or an expectation.  That is, it is entirely possible that one or both of the students hired to serve as speakers in this capacity will not be participants in other parts of the CAC programThe students for these speaker positions will be hired and coordinated separately.

Application forms can be obtained from Sharon Lotterer in the Psychology Dept (HSC209).

Best of luck to everyone who applies!
